Many business owners and entrepreneurs set out on their journey to make a name for themselves, create an empire or acquire massive wealth to in order to provide a dream life for their families.
Most of these people end up fizzling out when the struggle gets real and things get difficult. One shift in their mindset could have made all the difference…
Rather than starting off trying to amass wealth and fame for themselves, if they built their cause around changing the world for the better, one could have a profound impact on the way they do business and interact with people in the day-to-day grind.
When one builds their foundation with a goal of changing the world for the better it no longer becomes just about them, their family, or their company… it becomes about the community as a whole.
Here’s how to impact the world every day with your life:
1. Commit Your Cause to Writing:
We’ve all heard the phrase, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” While this is true, we have to intentionally remind ourselves about our cause and purpose if we are to strive daily to make a difference. Place this goal somewhere where you see it every single day and repeat it out loud at least 3 – 5 times per day.
What does this do? It makes your mission real to you. It goes from being just a wishful thought to an active pursuit. By repeating this over and over, it causes you to be consistently thinking about how to make this result come to pass.
I am an Evernote junkie – I tend to keep all my important pursuits in this handy note-taking app where I can review them at any time. I encourage you to write down your dream goal of what you wish to accomplish in your life that will bring value to the world around you and consistently and intentionally be taking action towards it.
2. Map out Your Plan:
This verse in Habakkuk 2:2 puts this next part into perspective,
“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”
Once you know what you want to accomplish and who you want to impact, it’s time to write out your plan. Are you seeing the trend here?
It’s now time to create a plan to make your cause a reality. By beginning with the end in mind, you can now log the steps needed to accomplish your mission. Some people never finish (or finish well), because they do not take the time to plan effectively.
Here’s how to get started planning your strategy:
- Take your monumental goal and break it down into smaller, more manageable and achievable tasks that you can work on.
- Next, assign due dates to each task, as well as who will complete it (if you have a team).
- Follow up with your team after tasks are due.
- Evaluate how things went and brainstorm any changes that need to be made.
- Repeat steps 1 – 4.
This can be done with a project management or task management app – I like Todoist the most personally.
3. Celebrate the Small Wins and Milestones
It’s important to reward yourself and your team when you reach small goals along the way to your big dream accomplishment. This will not only boost morale amongst your team but will make the journey more enjoyable. Take the time to celebrate the small things.
4. Consistently Press Forward
Nothing of great value has ever been achieved without sacrifice and perseverance. If your cause is going to significantly improve the lives of other people, and the community at large, then it’s worthy of your blood, sweat, and tears.
No matter how hard things get, how big the obstacles are, or how long the road may seem – press forward every day. For you will never fail as long as you do not give up.
I hope this blesses you, please feel free to leave a comment below on how you strive to improve the world each day and what you do to overcome resistance.
